S.D. rabies cases on the rise (The Argus Leader) An increase in cases of rabies in animals has prompted state officials to remind people to vaccinate their pets. In 2009, the South Dakota Department of Health had 53 confirmed cases of rabies in animals, compared to 24 in 2008. Of the 53 animals, 35 were wild, including 31 skunks. Domestic animals confirmed include seven dogs, four cats, four cattle and two horses.
